Cathedral of Knowledge-The Game
Cathedral of Knowledge Week 13
It’s that time of the year where all the best rivalries are renewed. As rivalries go, none are bigger than The Game. The Ohio State University versus the University of Michigan(Meeeechigan if you’re Chris Fowler) as a steeped in tradition, history, and lore as any. It will have been 2926 days since Michigan last beat the Buckeyes when the ball is teed up on Saturday. To be perfectly clear that is 8 years and 6 days. The greatest rivalry resumes at Noon on Saturday.
The Game isn’t the only game as it’s title may proclaim. The Domers head to Stanford to take on a Heisman candidate. The Iron bowl resumes in Auburn, Alambama. Clemson travels to the capital to take on the ‘Cocks. The Pigs and Tigers get it on in Death Valley and the defacto B1G Leaders championship game is Madison this weekend.
The Cathedral Week 13!!!!
HERE WE COME!!!!!

Going to Church
I will quickly address the Urban Meyer discussion this week with a Welcome Back to Buckeye Nation. I know you left to hone your coaching skills and now your dream job is about to land in your lap. If any rumors of the past week are correct, Urban understands what it means to be a Buckeye. Fickell will remain on and Urban doesn’t want any attention on him until after The Game. Let just hope he stays 10 years and has at least as much success as T-ress.
Cathedral Soap Box
Did anyone notice that the top 3 in the BCS standings are in the SEC West. Yes, the same freaking division. LSU plays Arkansas Saturday and if Arkansas wins it is still likely that the Top 3 in the BCS will remain in the SEC West. I have no problem with this. I may have been brainwashed into ESPiN’s constant SEC falacio, but the reality is the SEC has won the past 45 national championships and looks like 46 is right around the corner. At this point I would take another USC championship…as long as they wouldn’t have to give it back.
All joking aside, the rest of the nation needs to step it up and start winning bowl games and winning non-conference games against the SEC. That is the only way to break this notion of SEC dominance. And, because of bowl tie-ins the B1G conference needs to step up this year. They won’t play in the NC but they cannot have last years performance.
Time And Change Will Surely Show
As I said before, it will have been 2926 day and 8 years since the Wolverinies beat our beloved Buckeyes on the Gridiron. During this time frame and leading up The Game in 2004, the COK began its ramblings and ranting. It started very small with only an email distributed version and evolved to this current web-site/blog version. Now, I have taken a lot of shit for having a college football blog but I persevered. To date the web-site version has 3417 views. I thank you all for this and the imput you have given me over the years.
I hope you have enjoyed the COK and this will be the last one written. I’d like to look back at some of the interesting things that have happened over this time frame, also the since the last time Meatchicken beat TOSU.
- Lindsay Lohan went from cute role model for young girls to psycho host beast in and out of jail and drug-induced fogs.
- The Hussein family was still alive .
- 992 billion M&M’s have been produced
- The Euro was still worth less than the Dollar
- _ichigan has had 3 football head coaches
- A Michigan fan has never celebrated a win over OSU on Facebook..because facebook wasn’t invented yet.
Please add your own…
The COK will live on in your hearts and in mine. You have to know when it’s time to shut it down. With the new coming era of Buckeye football, I will still be a freak that reads on message boards and is an insane about the next 5 star offensive lineman, that will be the next Orlando Pace, coming to OSU.
I will still tell you when I have a good feeling or a bad feeling about the Buckeyes. I will still go to games and lose my voice screaming to the White Stripes intro. I will still give you my version of Keith Jackson’s “On the banks of the Olentangy.” I will still tell you that Tressel was my generations version of Woody. I will still get chills every time I see Script Ohio. I will still stay at every game to sing Carmen Ohio. I will tell you exactly what it felt like to jump in Mirror Lake the THURSDAY before The Game(4 times). If you ask me what makes OSU great, I promise you I will not know when to shut up.
So…the end of the COK has nothing to do with poor play of the Buckeyes this season but with the ability to enjoy great times to come. I’m ready for the Urban Meyer era to begin and the quick reaffirmation to the nation that the Buckeyes didn’t go anywhere. Perhaps, that reassurance is this weekend.

I can’t believe the lack of build up for this game. Honestly, this should be #1 vs. #2 type build up. The winner of this game is probably going to play for the National Championship. It should be 2006 OSU/Mich. Since nobody wants to give Arkansas any respect we are left with the most under-anticipated game of the week and maybe year.
Since their loss to Bama earlier in the year, all Arkansas has done is win and win big. The hogs offense is playing at a very high level and should test LSU with all their weapons. They should be able to put up a few points on the Tiger defense.
LSU is just solid. They don’t make mistakes and they make big plays when they need it. The Alabama game is a prime example of how you win just being solid. They were not better than Bama but they didn’t make mistakes and they can kick FG’s.
This is always a close game but LSU is at home and they will get it done.

The Iron bowl has always slanted toward the Crimson Tide. But last year, Auburn bought a win with the arms and legs of Cam Newton. It was an amazing comeback and an incredible last drive for Auburn to send them to their National Championship. Still, Bama own Auburn and the Tigers a year away and another QB away from being able to compete with the Tide.

I have a weird feeling about this game. Straight up I know Wisconsin is a better team and is probably the best team in the B1G. When they get the ball running, they are nearly impossible to stop. Penn State just keeps winning. They went to the shoe and force turnovers that cost the Buckeyes the game and handed it to the Lions. Going into Madison will be difficult for PSU to get the W.

The Buckeyes come into Ann Arbor limping after 2 straight losses. There may be new hope on the horizon for the Buckeyes but they have a game to play on Saturday. Michigan is probably the hottest team in the B1G with a huge win over Nebraska and good win at Illinois.
Denard Robinson still remains the biggest threat in the Big Ten to score on any play. He has not been great against the Buckeyes passing the ball in two games. He was able to sneak out 107 yards rushing last year against the Buckeyes prior to his exit from the game.
Boom Herron could be in his last game as a Buckeye and has definitely been a thorn in Michigan’s side with 350 yards rushing and 3 TD’s against his arch rival. He and Braxton Miller will need to be able to make some plays to Michigan off the field on Saturday.
Michigan’s defense is vastly improved over last year and should be ready to play on Saturday. The key to this game will be the intangibles. Do the Buckeyes rally around Luke in his last game (Earle Bruce-like) or do the pack it in and get ready for Meyer? Does Brady Hoke’s insistence on not wearing red put a better emphasis on this game than his predecessor? I have the feeling of the former and like I would pick Michigan in the last COK. COME-ON!!!!!

Cathedral of Knowledge Week 11
Week 11 is here and we may actually talk about some college football games. It’s quite terrible when off the field issues are bigger than what actually happens on the field. Don’t get me wrong, these are issues that need to be discussed but we would all be much happier if we would not. There are some good games this weekend. Penn St does play Nebraska, Sparty looks to play better on the road, Oregon tests their Luck, UGA takes on a tiger, Boise’s last test, Meeechigan is on upset alert, and the Buckeyes look to keep the train rollin’.

I would really like to weigh in on the PSU issue but I think we are all tired of hearing about this horrible situation. Some of the things I am hearing from pretty credible writers is completely sinister. From the top down this University is going to go through some very bad times. This, of course, is nothing that the victims are going through.
If some of the things I’m hearing are accurate this program may shut down and not exist for some time. The University may even be discredited.
There is more to come out and if you can actually read all 23 pages of testimony you will understand that Paterno and PSU made a despicable error in judgement that can only end the way it has. The fact that Sandusky was even allowed within 10 feet of State College is amazing. This guy is a monster and he will never see the light of freedom again…thankfully.
The NCAA needs to give this university the death penalty and allow the existing players to transfer way the hell away. Joe Paterno’s legacy is ruined. The students that are rioting ought to be forced to read all 23 pages out loud in front of the families of the victims and they should be suspended from the university. The fact that Sandusky was still on campus and using the facilities a week ago make my stomach turn. This is all just beginning…
The Extra Point
Unfortunately, the bad news in the B1G continues with The OSU is sanctioning themselves more by taking away 5 total scholarships over 3 years. This came after the NCAA notifying OSU of their charge of failure to monitor. OSU fans, expect a harsher punishment from the NCAA as this punishment is kind of a slap in the face to the NCAA. To be continued…

I was on the fence as to if they should even play this game. Then I figured that this is senior night and this may be the last game in State College for a long time. What happens to this program is yet to be seen. The sooner this game can be over the better.
Nebraska has new life in the conference and needs to keep on winning. PSU currently is also in great position for the title chase. Nebraska has too much offense for PSU to keep up.

Sparty heads to Iowa to where they lost their only game of the regular season last year. MSU has played horrible this season on the road. Kinnick stadium will not be very helpful this weekend either. Iowa has new life in the legends division after they escaped the weekend with a W over UM.
It’s a battle of two good RB’s in Bell and Coker. Coker is playing very well the last few weeks and really is the biggest reason they are still in contention. I think Sparty shuts down Coker with their D-Line and figures out how to play on the road.

Is this the new Michigan or the old? This game will answer that questions. I will say Michigan is vastly improved on Defense and they seem to be much more consistent than in the past 4 years. Denard is still not a real passing threat but he is getting run support from his RB’s.
Illinois is on a downward slide and this game would be a very good way to stop it. It is a home game for Illinois but that usually isn’t that big of an advantage. Michigan is able to run on Illinois but I don’t think they reproduce last year’s fireworks.

The Buckeyes need another performance from their rushing attack like they had the last week. 3-100 yard rushers is quite impressive. C-Hyde put his money where is mouth is and Boom went the dynamite as Braxton shredded through the Indiana defense. The only disappointment was the performance of the defense. I chalk it up to lack of focus and a little hang over from the Wisconsin game.
They better be ready to play this weekend as Purdue can really run the ball. Their slaughter at the hands of Wisconsin was not as bad as it may seem. Still they won’t be able to withstand the pounding the Buckeyes will put on them.

I love defensive statistics and I have a few for you this year. MSU is #2 in the country for yards/game (186) and has 21 sacks. Opponents have run 342 offensive plays against them. They will be hurt by loss of Gholston but they will be ready for the Wisconsin Offense. This will be the best test to see just how good Wisky is. If they can win this game and score points then they can say they are legit title contenders. If they can’t….

This is not a night game in Baton Rouge so than mean Auburn has a small chance. I would love to tell you that the losses of the suspended LSU players that have glaucoma may affect he LSU defense but LSU has too many studs to really make difference.
Auburn is going to try to run Dyer early and often. I don’t think that is a good thing for Auburn. This feels like a game where he may average 1.4 yards per carry and LSU will make Auburn prove they can throw the ball. In the end, it’s too much LSU at home.

The Big game in the B1G is finally here. East Lansing will be rocking Saturday nigh when the Badgers come into town. We will see whether Wisconsin is that good on Offense or MSU is really that good on Defense. I think it is a combination of things on Saturday night.
MSU will try to shut down Montey Ball and James White and they may be the best defense to do so. If they can contain Russel Wilson they will win this game.
Wisconsin, again, has not played a defense as good as MSU. They will be able to put up some poins but I don’t think they can control the line of scrimmage like they have all year.
MSU will also be able to move the ball and should be able to use the crowd to get the W.

Shout out
Shout out goes to Aadam and Sierra for the hospitality last weekend. Even though the Buckeyes lost, it was the most fun for a game I have had all year.
Going to Church
I am in a state that I am not familiar with. I can’t decide whether I am accepting that the Buckeyes are a poor team or that I am indifferent because the Buckeyes are playing below their talent. Either way, I have accepted that this season isn’t going to be what I expect from the Buckeyes and I think I’m ok with it. However, I will not give the Buckeye coaches any free passes…see below.
Cathedral Soap Box
The Buckeyes are rolling. The Defense is dominating and the offense has more offensive yards/points than it had in the last 2 games(all in 2 qtrs). I have a good buzz going and then Braxton goes down. OH(IO) SH!T. That means Joe is going in where he proceeds to throw 100 ft above WR’s heads and the one pass that he needed to throw long is short and intercepted. Ridiculous, why this guy is even at OSU is a joke. So he was a baseball player and all of sudden we think he can throw a football. Last I checked, he wasn’t even a pitcher and he is used to throwing round balls. He is nothing but a glorified clip board holder and might as well just have washed TP’s jock.
Regardless, what is the hesitancy to put Kenny Guiton in? I think in the spring he was going to be a starter. Joe has proven he can’t be a starter so why not give Guiton a chance. At least you are going down swinging.
Finally, how obvious is it that this team responds to Braxton and not Joe. I don’t care what the reason are but the Defense plays with confidence when he is playing. I know Braxton only plays QB but for 3 qtrs at Nebraska and 4 qtrs against MSU that defense was what we expected to see this year. I thought TP was the loser that ruined OSU’s 2011-12 season when in reality it was Joe Bauserman. WOW!!!
The Point After
I’m not sure who the next head coach is at OSU but I can be sure of this. The entire offensive staff is gone except Stan Drayton. Heacock is gone. Vrabel may stay but only if Fickell steps down to be Defensive coordinator. Otherwise say goodbye to all.
Coaches? I’m not 100% on Urban but I thin he can win NC’s here. I don’t think anyone will like him. Jon Gruden, really? No connections to OSU and never coached on the College level. Bo Pelini? Not sure he has proved enough to come here. Tony Dungy? No college experience and no OSU ties. I like the idea of Chris Peterson. Otherwise, I’m pretty sure the best choice, if it’s available is Urban. I’m not sayin’, I’m just sayin!!!

I’ve bounced back and forth on this one and the one x-factor, as it usually is for Michigan, is Denard Robinson. Can the Spartans keep him from running the ball and breaking down their stellar defense. Statistically you would say absolutely they can. I think they have a bit harder time this week.
Michigan is 6-0 for the first time since the early 2000′s. This year it feels different for them and it seems that they are turning the corner with not only their defense but a more consistent offense. They may be ready for the next level but not quite national contender. Without Robinson they would probably remind you of…OSU. Yikes.
MSU benefits from the home crowd but Michigan puts Sparty back a notch.

The Baylor bears head to College Station for a stiff task. The Aggies have one of the most explosive offenses in the country and they should be undefeated. They flat-out choked, coughing up big leads against OSU and Arkansas. I don’t think they will this week.

I can’t buy into the ASU hype to take them in this game on the road in Oregon. This is a big night game and the Ducks crowd will make it impossible to ASU to move the ball. The Duck’s defense plays overwhelmingly better at home. Look for them to continue that.
I will concede that the Duck offense takes a step back without LaMichael this weekend but don’t forget they have Darren Thomas, Kenyon Barner and a lot of other talent on offense. They will not score like they would with James but they will still move the ball. Don’t expect a ton of points in this one since the best part of ASU is their Defense.

If Braxton is healthy and stays healthy for the whole game, the Buckeyes turn a corner on the season. I’m pretty sure that Kenny G is finally the back up this week but I would just assume that Braxton plays the whole game.
Illinois has a pretty good offense and their defense is getting better every week. Look for Illinois to try to the ball to AJ Jenkins. The Buckeye defense will look to try to limit his touches but have to prove they can stop the running game first.
Buckeye fans always travel well to Illinois. So look for the Scarlet and Gray to ruin the Illini fans plans on striping the stadium.

The most frustrating thing happened last week. Here I was, totally excited, ready for the greatest experience of my life (well sorta), and I was sorely let down. I was there with it all right in front of me, I could almost taste victory. Then, total ineptitude, completely clumsy, very awkward, and amusingly horrid. I felt like someone didn’t take the blue pill (not like the Matrix). The offense just sputtered, just couldn’t get going, and certainly could not finish (drives). And then, miraculously, it got very interesting. There was a score, and then it was just this close to doing it again… But it wasn’t enough and there was epic failure at conquest. Total frustration…Of course I’m talking about the OSU offense.

Russell Wilson has made the Wisconsin Badgers a legit title contender and the best team in the B1G. The Badgers are the toughest offense in the country to stop. Absolutely a beast running the ball with Ball, White, and Wilson(when he has to). Wilson is best out of the pocket or taking advantage of an offensive line that gives him close to forever to throw the ball. As I watched their game last week I had to do a double take. This kid has so much confidence and was playing with a swagger that reminded me of 1 former QB. He looks just like Troy Smith his senior season. I’m not sure he has as good a WR’s but he has better RB’s and a better OL. I think Wisconsin runs the table and makes it to the NC. I know, I hate it as much as you do…trust me!!!

The Red River Shootout has been known for a lot of crazy and fun games. A lot of great teams/players in recent memory have made this one of the nations premier rivalries. I just don’t think that the ‘horns have what they need to give OU a shot. Now I don’t think OU can win a NC but I don’t think UT is ready for this level until next year. This should be a lower scoring game but OU could break it open.

Florida is without Brantley this week as they head to Baton Rouge (cajun accent). The only good thing for the Gators is that this is not a night game. The Gators got gashed last week against Bama and I think there is going to be a lot of the same this week. Now I don’t think that LSU has the ability to hang the same amount of point on Florida but look out for the LSU D to make some plays (pick 6).

Auburn has made a good run this season in a year that no one gave them a chance to even be a top 25 team. This is the game for the 3rd place in the SEC West and it is in Arkansas. I love the way Michael Dyer is running the ball and that is what has hurt Arkansas. Auburn has given up a lot of point to teams that like to spread them out and throw. So…War Eagle on the Road gets it done.

So hold on to your seats boys and girls for what may be another disaster. I remain optimistic that B-rax from H-squared will be able to make plays. I see a ton of potential in his running ability and he could stop staring down the passing routes he won’t have so many balls batted down.
Statistically the Huskers are not as good defensively as the Spartans but playing at night on the road has not fared well for the Buckeyes this year. The Buckeyes need big plays early and often to get the crowd out of the game and to get some confidence. Jordan Hall needs to be a factor and the return of Mike Adams should bolster the OL.
Taylor Martinez should never throw the ball…ever. The Husker running game is too good and diverse to make him throw the ball. I think this may play into the buckeye game plan and try to force him to throw the ball and make mistakes like he did in Wisconsin.
In the end, the bend-but-don’t-break Buckeye defense will need to make plays to keep them in the game. I don’t see them being able to contain the running game all night long. Even though I thin the Buckeyes have some success with Miller and Hall, I think there is just not enough horses in the engine.

Gooooooood morning Cathedral Week 5!! The COK is back again to put that extra spice in your life. Yes that is the what the COK does best…you know, tell you what the best games and matchups are for the weekend ahead. Buckeyes fight the 300(minus a few), The Tide rolls into the Swamp, Hokies welcome in the Tigers, Hogs head to Dallas, Baylor goes to Manhattan(Kansas), and the Badgers have the inaugural B1G game with Nebraska in Madison.
The Cathedral Week 5!!!!
HERE WE COME!!!!!
Shout out
This week, I will give a huge shout out to the semi-inspiration to the COK. Ray and Lauren are celebrating their 4th anniversary this weekend. As well as Brandon and Lauren’s grandparents are celebrating their 60th anniversary as well. Congratulations to both couples and hopefully many more years to come for each!!
Going to Church
Last week was a good week for the COK. The COK successfully predicted the winners of all the games that were picked, including the USC “upset”. I hope to repeat that glory this week.
One word of caution for all Buckeye fans. Don’t think all the offensive problems are solved coming into this weekend. There were flashes of greatness from Miller and company however they were inconsistent at best. B-Miller needs to tighten up the spiral and be more comfortable with his progressions. Eventually the defenses will start keying on the fact that he will take off if the first receiver is not open. Just be confident, kid!!!
One word of optimism, Jordan Hall is legit. He will be major factor in all things offensive and return-wise this season for the Buckeyes. He could very well have taken two kicks to the house last weekend. Not to mention the offense looks very good with him in the game.
Last word-> Devin Smith will be a special player for OSU is he isn’t already. You can put Ryan Shazier in that category as well as Michael Bennett. I still say this was the best top-to-bottom recruiting class in the country last year.

The Mountaineer Maniacs have introduced a T-shirt Amnesty program to help exchange West F……. Virginia T-shirts. Students who bought the shirt can bring it to the Mountainlair and exchange it for a $20 voucher to buy an officially licensed T-shirt at the WVU Bookstore, Book Exchange or WVU’s Team Shop in the Coliseum.

I get the idea but poor sportsmanship and all-out redneck(ness) is a staple of WVU athletics. Look at Bob Huggins, how many times has he been caught throwing up outside a strip club. Ok so I may be mixing redneck with white trash but most of the time it one-in the-same!!
In all honesty this seems like a good program as the Buckeye nation can attest, there could be a few less “Llyod Carr has Crabs” and “Chad Henne Rhyms with DB” T-shirst floating around(not to mention the Fu

Both team are coming off tough losses at the hands of superior teams. I know I think I am the only OK-State fan in Ohio. But, I like the fact that A&M can produce some serious points. It remains to be seen it the hogs can truly move the ball against legit defenses.
I’m not sayin the Aggies are that legit but they will have a slight home field advantage in Dallas. Look for Tannehill to put up some big numbers and put a whoopin on the Hogs.

RG3 has had a spectacular season and is probably favorite for the Heisman through September. The beauty of RG3 is that he has more TD’s than incompletion this season. The other thing I love about Griffen is that he is not the average dink and dunk QB. He is elusive when he needs to be and he looks down field. But this game will be much closer than you think.

Sparty comes into Columbus after a blow out win over Central and an embarrassment to Notre Dame. The Buckeyes got back on track with a blow out of Colorado after an equally embarrassing game in Miami.
MSU boasts a talented group on offense that will put up a lot of points if they are not playing Notre Dame. Seems the same could be true for the Buckeyes. Kirk Cousins is the more heralded QB coming into the game with BJ Cunningham and Edwin Baker at his disposal. Braxton Miller is coming off his first start where he showed some good potential but wasn’t always dominant.
I think the defenses rule this game and if there is some good progression by Braxton should be a really good game. For the Buckeyes to win they need to get good defensive pressure and perhaps have a special teams TD. I just don’t think they are ready yet…But I’m I will bleed scarlet and gray this weekend.

Buckeye fans probably wanted to jump off a cliff this week. I really want to put this in perspective as I tried to after the Toledo game. We are just not that good. We have benefitted from a legendary coach over the past 10 years that has set the bar pretty high. He called the plays and clearly was the offensive coordinator along with being the head coach.
But let me give you some hope and give you some promises. I promise that coach Bollman will not be at OSU next season. I promise you that Braxton Miller will be the starting QB by the end of the year. I promise you that Boom, Posey, and Adams will help the offense. I promise you we will complete a forward pass this week. And I promise you that we will get better as the season goes forward.
Cathedral Soap Box
Joe Bauserman is a bum for a QB. I bet he is a great human being but he plays QB like a 5th grade girl. Does Joe know that one of prerequisites of a QB is not only having the ability to throw the ball but wanting to throw the ball? I don’t think we have had a more indecisive QB ever. Is he so afraid of making a mistake that he just doesn’t want to throw or is he just that bad?
So whoever the QB is this week, please grow some balls, make your reads, step into your throws, and step up and be a leader. This is big time college football and there is no room for small-time 3rd grade tea parties a the line of scrimmage. I guarantee that Colorado is licking their lips to get after your sorry passing game.
The Point After
The best and worst part about last weeks loss to the Hurricanes is now people actually think that Miami is a decent team. I watched Maryland just throw the ball all over Miami’s defense. I watched how Jacorry Harris should tried to give the game away to the Buckeyes another 4 times (I know it was only twice). And I watched how the vaunted Buckeye running game gashed them time and time again only to stall because the Buckeyes suck at QB. So go ahead and say the ‘canes are back…and I’ll take the points against them every week.

Like it or not Domers, this is the turning point to your season. Will you be an above average team this year or will you falter into your normal abyss of irrelevance?
Luckily for you the COK believe that you are going to get the W this week and do it with flair. Pitt has struggled with a couple of teams this year and gave up a huge lead last week to Iowa in a loss.
Rudy-35-17
Yager stadium will be rockin’ in Oxford for this big clash of MAC conference rivals. BG has look very good this year with only a block extra point from possibly being undefeated. Miami has shown some toughness with 2 losses to Minnesota and Missouri but seems to struggling to run the ball. No need in this game as the teams should be slinging the ball all over the field. I like the confidence in the BG Falcons to take out the Rock Chalk Red Hawks in SW Ohio.

This is the first real test of the year Arkansas as they decided to play the HBC rotation to get their record to 3-0. Regardless they will get tested in next two weeks with Texas A&M next week as well. I don’t like this stretch for Arkansas.
Bama, as I predicted, respectfully rolled over Penn State and showed why they are the best team in the country with a suffocating defense and balance offensive attack. Then they got tuned up for this game by tuning up N. Texas. Bama needs to start fast and keep Arkansas out of this game. They have the added bonus of Arkansas QB coming off a concussion and home field advantage of Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Free Shoes U played OK saturday night but came up short against Oklahoma. They held Landry Jones from exploding but he did end up with a the game winning drive.

Last year’s game was one of the most exciting offensive performances by both teams I had ever seen. However, OK state seems to be on the next level this year. I’m not sure there is a defense, that doesn’t reside in the SEC, that can stop this offense.
Look for it to be another high scoring game but in the end I like the Cowboys to pony up and win at Kyle field.

Geno Smith is clearly the most explosive player in the Big East and has his Mountaineers marching up and down the field. LSU has a defense that is probably number one or two in the country. LSU will get Russel Shepard back for this game, so hopefully it will help their offensive woes. I know that MSU has a good defense but it slowed down the LSU attack pretty well last week.
Morgan town will add that extra flair to this game and I’m not talking burning couches. Well maybe I am but they will bring the noise to Mountaineer Field. This will carry the Mounties into the fourth quarter but I just don’t think they can pull the upset.

So Buckeye fans have been on the edge all week and are looking for just that last nudge to put them over the edge. Well you may just get it on Saturday. I really don’t want to make light of Colorado. I know that they haven’t really been good this year but neither have the Buckeyes. They took Cal to OT and beat their rival CSU last weekend.
I like two things for the Buckeyes. One, they are playing at home. Two, I think they play with an extra edge that we didn’t see last weekend. The deer in the headlights look shouldn’t be so noticeable this week.
‘Closer than the spread, Buckeyes….24-18

1. I think if people want to ‘boo’ something or someone at Ohio State, they oughtta direct their anger at the players and coach who created this storm and are sitting on the sideline or at home .. not the guys who followed the rules and stayed eligible and are doing everything they can to win games for our ‘Big State U’. The fickleness of fans is laughable sometimes. Just my $.02
2. Michigan fans are the most delusional fans in the country…they will start out 5-0 just like they have the past 3 years but they will lose 5 games.

I just want to recap last week with a couple of things that you should remember. Before you go jumping off a cliff and say this season is over, remember that essentially there are 8-9 started missing off this team(injuries and suspended). You can’t make those excuses at OSU but all I am saying is give the players that we are re-loading with some time to work into the position. And pray that when we actually get the suspended players back, that we are just that much better.
Cathedral Soap Box
I’ve been asked to weigh in on the Braxton vs. Bauserman debate, and I will use my considerable weight here on the COK. I have been told that Miller missed some practices last week and that this was the reason he did not play last week. I have a bit of a problem with this situation. I know that you need to be prepared for the other team. I know that Joe is 30 and knows the offense. I also know that Miller is a playmaker and could have made some plays to blow open the game.
We have been told this week that Miller is definitely in the plans to play this weekend. It seems Joe is still the starter and I think he is the starter even after this game. I hope that this just means that the coaching staff is not happy with the performance of Joe last week. I know I’m a Miller supporter and want him to play but I do not want Joe to fail. I just want Miller to beat him out but Miller needs the playing time to do this. SO PLAY HIM PLEASE.
Bottom line is with Tressel we would second guess some decisions but in the end we felt that the best players played. I don’t know that Fickell gets that same concession and needs to take some chances. Play Miller, play Joe, and let one of them prove it on the field.
The Point After
Conference re-structuring is one of the hot button topics in the world of College football. The Big Ten is a little too quite in these talks. I only hope that their silence is gamesmanship.
The times of Super Conferences is going to happen. I know we are not done with Texas A&M going to the SEC and I’m not going to speculate on where the rest of the teams are going to go. I will say that in the world of the Super Conferences you don’t want to be the teams left out or even the conferences left out.
The Big Ten makes a ton of money (you know what this is really all about) but imagine the money they can make if OU or Texas would come to the league. Not only that, but imagine how deep and good the conference would be with these teams.
Finally, look at this from a recruiting standpoint. Right now the SEC gets the best players. Not exclusively but you have to make the argument that the best conference has the best players. Imagine if the these conferences get all the best teams now it’s no question that all the best players will want to play in the best leagues.

Starkville, Mississippi will be rockin’ tonight! Thursday games in the SEC are a staple of the college football season. Usually there are great games and incredible crowds. Mississippi St. will try to take advantage of their home field edge and upset the Tigers. MSU did not produce on the big stage last week when Auburn ran up and down the field on their vaunted defense.

If Notre Dame can stop turning the ball over, they will win this game. I feel they are the best 0-2 team in the country and I’m not even a ND fan. Rees, Wood, and Floyd are a great 1-2-3 punch on offense and Mike Floyd is making a strong case for the Belitnikof.

The battle of the NCAA criminals commences on Saturday night. In what has become a decent rivalry (OSU leads the series 3-1) the Buckeyes and ‘Canes don’t like each other very much. I think this game could get ugly from a trash talking side of things. I just have that feeling. And I know I may ask for Andrew Sweat to tackle someones face off.
Al Golden is in a tough position only compounded by the horrible shirt and tie that he wore the last week for the Maryland game. Word is that Maryland saw how ugly it was and decided that he wasn’t going to steal their show. His defense didn’t help him much giving up big yards and big plays to the Terps. Now the Terps are vastly improved, however, I was not impressed with their D.
I don’t think that Golden should play Harris if he wants to win. He will try to force too much and create too many turnovers when he is pressured. I hope he plays but I think the U needs to play Stephen Morris for their best chance of winning.
The Buckeyes will lose Nathan Williams this week again and his loss last week was felt hard on the offensive line. I think with an extra week of practice with the first team JT Moore will step up for this game.
Look for Ryan Shazier to make a big impact in this game as well as Jordan Hall in his return. Andrew (Keith) Sweat is already having an AA year and should step again on this big stage. Also, look for Joe B and Braxton Miller to be able to pass against this secondary. I think the Miami DB are not very good.
Last week I almost jumped off a bridge and I was going to pick the U. I’ve convinced myself the Buckeyes will come out of SoFla with a big W.
Go Bucks- 35-17

- Heavy betting on BGSU this week. Line opened as BG 4.5 favorite. Currently up to 9 points. Gamblers love BGSU (or hate Wyoming).—9 points is tough but I definitely would have taken the opening line. Give me $20 on BG.

Cathedral of Knowledge Week 2
It’s another week in the College football nation. ‘Seems like we have football almost every day after Thursday and it’s terrific. Buckeyes take on the Rockets, Tide rolls into Beaver Stadium, Sun Devils welcome in Mizzou, and Michigan turn on the lights for Notre Dame (pray for us).
The Cathedral Week 2!!!!
HERE WE COME!!!!!
Shout out
A big Shout out goes to Mark Dantonio. Last week, Mark’s father died. Mark attended the funeral on Thursday and coached on Friday. The Spartans responded with a 28-6 effort against YSU. Dantonio was once our boy here at tOSU and will continue to be a great human being and a great coach.
Going to Church
This week, I want to remind everyone that freedoms and liberties that we have were greatly threatened 10 years ago. The travesty that was 9-11-01 has shaped our lives more than we can ever know. Please remember the people who died in the planes, died in the towers, died in the Pentagon, and died in the field in Pennsylvania. Their losses can never be replaced. neither can the losses at ground zero with the FDNY, NYPD, and other emergency responders. Their courage rings in the very words of the National Anthem and pulses through the blood of what makes the United States the greatest country in the world.
College football was a mode to bring us back to normalcy that September. It was a way to show that our nation still lived on and would continue to remain strong in the face of terrorism. Remember this weekend while you are celebrating your favorite teams. And remember what it felt like when we finally resumed football. Don’t take it for granted and take time to think of all the people who have given their lives since that day to guarantee that we have the sport that we love.
Cathedral Soap Box
There are two announcers that I love to hate the most. Mark May and Craig James really get me fired up. Mark May’s sarcasm at halftime last week was close to childish. Craig James didn’t even have the Buckeyes in his AP top 25 last week. May has never said one good thing about OSU(not that he has to). Craig James hired a law firm to get Mike Leech fired (and his kid is a Sally).
However, Craig James has seen the light. After not ranking the Buckeyes in the preseason AP poll, Mr. James has moved the Buckeyes all the way to his #14 position. That seems a little ridiculous to me. I’m not saying that I want Mark May on the Buckeye band waggon but hopefully in the next 3 weeks the Buckeyes shove some big fat victories down Fat Urkel’s throat!!
The Point After
I know what Texas A&M wants from the SEC, but I am really not sure what the SEC wants with Texas A&M. Texas A&M just feels like your younger brother or your best friend that just can’t compete with you. They know that you are better but they just get so pissed that they just want to go home and play with his other friends. Except…well TA&M’s friends are way better.
Texas A&M cannot compete in the Big 12 and will not compete in the SEC. All this because big brother has a TV network and there is more money. Great job SEC and Texas A&M for signing up another Mississippi/Mississippi St!!
The COKy Moment of the Week
Ole Miss and Houston Nutt are going to start taking on water and a lot of heat if they don’t start winning. Let alone their in-state rival is giving them extra fuel for that fire. This brings a whole new definition to the Blind Side.

Missouri is one of those teams that is missing some talent from last season. Namely, Blain Gabbert, yet they are still ranked in the top 25. They struggled quite a bit last week with their show down with Miami, Ohio (sorry boat).
ASU is a vastly improved team over the past 2 seasons with a great LB in Burfict. He is, no doubt, one of the best defenders in the nation. ASU steadily got better on offense as well last season.

Behold the power of Beaver Stadium. Yet another over-played white-out in Happy Valley will yet again be spoiled by the better road team. Now I don’t want to discount the crowd too much, I think they are the only reason that this game stays close.
I’m not really sure how Penn St. scores in this game. That is going to be the biggest issue with PSU. I think they can hold Alabama to 21-28 points but I just don’t see them being able to score enough points.
Cyrus Redd was pretty good last week against YSU but the Penguins are not quite Bama. Bama threw 4 INT’s last week against Kent St. but was still able to put a hurtin’ on Kent St.

Leave it to the Dawgs to really ruin the build up for this game. Still, Georgia has a lot to play for even after they were spanked in the Georgia Dome. Boise took advantage of a balance spread attack that eventually broke Georgia.
SC started slow last week and finish big (that’s what she said). Stephen Garcia sat the bench in the first half with his helmet in one hand and a Corona in the other. SC is my sleeper team in the NCAA this season so you know where I’m going with this one.

Darkness falls on Michigan Stadium and for the first time ever, the big hole will be lit up. Renovations have allowed the Michiganders the ability to have night games but it the renovations to the team that has everyone excited.
Notre Dame would probably have won their game last week if it wasn’t for the turnovers and a monsoon. Still they lose their starting QB(due to ineptitude) and only bright spot was with Cierre Wood (RB). Notre Dame will lose this game is Crist does not play.
Michigan is still a question to me. The looked pretty good on offense but if it wasn’t for 2 bad turnovers for Western, the game may have ended with a much closer score.
Meechigan wins 38-34

The Buckeyes did almost everything perfect last weekend. There is not a better opening head coaching debut in OSU history. Still they need to get better and they will be playing a much tougher team.
The Rockets come into town after beating a horrid I-AA team (FCS). The Rockets are also one of the favorites to win the MAC. They have some good return specialist and good WR’s but I don’t think they match up well with the Buckeyes.
Buckeye fans would love another shut out and that would be the best birthday present. Luke…If you’re reading this…I wan’t to see how much Hall and Howard will help this team in their first game back. I like to think that with the addition of Hall’s quickness to the offense it will take them to another level. I loved Hyde and Smith last week but they are more wear-you-down backs.
Bucks 45-7…eat it Cowherd.

You can already smell it in the air. The heat of the day has given way to cool evenings and fresh-cut grass. The weather has signified the change to the season of football. With that, of course, you can fully expect another brilliant season of The Cathedral of Knowledge.
Week one is full of big time games and big time blowouts. The Buckeyes play possibly the worst team in NCAA last year. LSU takes on Oregon in Dallas. Georgia takes on the little sisters of the poor (Boise St. thanks Gee). TCU travels to Baylor. The Golden Domers got So. Fla. It all gets started this Thursday!!!

Shout out
The Cathedral has often give shout outs to bars, beers, women, websites, friends, and family. I know no bounds indeed…So I gave thought hard about who I wanted to give this weeks shout out to. This week I’m going to give a shout out to…Terrelle Pryor.
I know the gasps that I may have just gotten but I bear with me, you’ll enjoy this. This will just prove just how dumb TPeezy just may actually be. TP, who is the reason that the T-ress is gone, proves that he really didn’t know what he was doing. Mr. Pryor was required to take the wonderlick test prior to entering the supplemental draft. He scored a 7. Yes a 7. You get a 7 for spelling your name right. A 10 means that you are barely literate. Vince Young, who is standard for a dumb QB’s, scored a 13 on his.
To Terrelle Pryor, I only wish you could read this…

I have always felt that there was a little Anti-OSU and Anti-BigTen sentiment from ESPiN. I then thought that I was imagining things and decided that ESPN would be “fair and balanced”. I even defended Herbie(more on this later) for trying so hard to be objective that he turned into a Buckeye/Big10 hater. Here is a very interesting article about how ESPN may have already lost the future in broadcasting sports. It gives 7 reasons why by the end of the decade ESPN will not necessarily be the ”World Wide Leader.” I will only argue that they still put out the best product. Until competitor can match the talent and production quality it may take longer than a decade. Enjoy.

The Landscape of College football has seen some troubling things over the past 12 months. From Cam Newton, to OSU, to Miami, LSU, UNC, Oregon, even Boise controversy has hit the sport. Why? Well people like you and me that cannot get enough of the sport have put these players and programs on a pedestal. The media, fans, recruiters, boosters, and agents have given young adults a sense of entitlement that is a little out of control.
There are a number of things that need to change with the NCAA. The biggest thing is to simplify the rule book. Second, impose stiffer fines for violators. Third, collaborate with the NFL to deter players from just taking advantage of universities. Finally, quantify the cost spent to educate and board NCAA students. When a NCAA student athlete violates the terms of the contract with school, make them repay that scholarship. It may not be much to some multi millionaires but it may be enough to detract some others.
Games of the Week
The first big game of the year is actually on Friday. Sorry Murry St and Louisville, you don’t qualify. I love this matchup. The TCU Horned Frogs bring bad most of a defense that was in the top ten in total defense a year ago. Baylor has one of the most dynamic QB’s in the nation in Robert Griffin III. Along with the QB the Bears return 9 starters for a team that put up a ton of offensive numbers.
The Bears did not do to well against elite defenses. Against TCU last year they only put up a 10 spot and against Illinios they only put up 14. TCU on the other had will be missing their all everything QB Andy Dalton. They do return their top three rushers that combined for over 2300 yards and 23 TD’s.
I like TCU on the road- 28-24

Holy ghost of Ara Paarseghian (I don’t think he’s dead yet) the Golden Domers start the season with the most hype since…well last year. But I think this season is a little more legit. The Irish return the top 8 of 9 tacklers on a defense that did a pretty decent job against some good teams toward the end of the season. Now the Irish will have to be able to score some points and thank TD Jesus that Mike Floyd passed his last breathalyzer. Don’t forget Dayne Crist(spelled correctly). Win baby win is the new motto at the Grotto.
S. Florida is everyone’s dark horse pick for the Big (L)East. They return a good offense and a very athletic defense. Will it be enough to upset the Irish in S. Bend?
Irish 35-24.

I have to hand it to Boise, they have the motto of playing anyone anywhere. The broncos come into the heart of the Dirty and take on the Georgia in their own back yard. This will be a glorified home game for UGA minus the hedges. Look out for the crowd to be a factor and the new freshman sensation Isaiah Crowell to make a break out statement.
I think the Broncos will miss too much of their big play receivers in Titus Young and Austin Pettis. It’s hard to replace 22oo yards receiving and 19 TD’s. This makes it a much lower scoring game then people expect. Still I like the Bulldogs at home.
UGA 24-21

The Weekends marquee matchup is between the Ducks and Tigers. This will be played in a neutral field in Dallas. However, I would bet the tigers have a slight edge in attendances.
The Ducks return the bulk of their explosive offense from a year ago minus Jeff Maehl. Look for LaMichael James, Kenjon Barner, Darron Thomas, and Josh Huff to make up for the loss.
LSU is the latest victim of off-field issues that have plagued college football this season. Jordan Jefferson will not play in this game and that may be the difference in this game. I like the defense of LSU a lot but I don’t think it can keep up for 4 quarters with the type of pressure that Oregon put’s on a defense. Really, look at the NC game, it wasn’t Auburn’s defense that won that game.
Oregon will be missing some returning starters on defense and that will make this a close game. Still I like the experience of the Ducks in a Semi-upset of the Tigers.
Ducks 28-21

If you are a Buckeye fan and a Ohio native, this game cannot get here soon enough. It’s time to put the offseason behind us. It’s time to put all the turmoil to rest. It’s time to say good-bye to the ones you loved and respected. And it’s time to say “don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out”.
2011 signifies a new era of football for the Buckeyes which is yet to be determined. I am more excited for this season than any season since T-roy’s senior campaign. I love the chip on the should attitude and I love the real us against them mentality. Now the team is wearing “Shock the World” t-shirts. See here => http://www.timeandchangeclothiers.com./#!__shop/inspired-tees/vstc52=shock-the-world . I know they are taking some flack for these but, If I were a Buckeye fan I would accept anything that would make this team play at their highest level. If it’s a JT bracelet or a shock the world T, then so be it. Embrace it.
So, about the game. Akron was probably the worst team in the FBS last season. That’s not a joke. They were in the bottom of almost every statistical category. Ugly.
It’s the storylines that will make this game interesting; Fickell’s first game, playing without the tat-4, Bauserman or Braxton. All these will make everyone in The State of Ohio interested.
Buckeyes Roll 56-3

Question: 1). Tressel was known as ’The Vest’. What should Luke Fickell’s nickname be? Great question. Does it depend on what he wears on Saturday? According to Fick, he says he will be wearing ‘whatever his wife lays out for him’. I think with a name like ”Luke” it is so easy to chant it. Kinda like “Boom” or ”Nuge”. I think he will just go by LUUUUUKKKKEEEE!!!! Other possibilities: The Jedi, OB-1, Coach Fick, The Successor. Alright now I’m reaching.
Comment: Brady Hoke sounds like Matt Foley, Motivational Speaker. You decide.
And Comment of the Week: “V I love the COK but next time could you send a little later in the morning than 4:19. It’s kinda early to wake up.” You are right! My fault, but the COK keep truckin’ 24-7
The Point After
If you are anti-BCS, like a lot of you are, than you have to hate conference realignment. The only reason we don’t already have a playoff or a plus one system is because of the school presidents and the conference commissioners. So, if you were excited that the Nebraska is in the B10(12), or that Texas A&M is heading to the SEC, you better dial it down a notch. It is another example of how the BCS is creating monopolies in college football. I’m a traditionalist when it comes to college football, the more bowls the better, but the craziest thing I can think of is 3 or 4 super conferences that dominate the landscape. But let me tell you this, it’s going to happen.
I’m not going to sit and predict where everyone team is going to go but if you are a borderline good football program and you get an offer, you better say yes please. The Pac12, Big10(12), and SEC will hold the dominate share of the powers and teams on the outside will be like Boise, TCU, Hawaii were 5 years ago–Left out. And buckle up because its going to happen sooner(boomer) than you think.
The COKy Moment of the Week
I don’t have an exact quote but my COKy moment of the week belongs to Kirk Herbstreit. Herbie has taken a ton of criticism for not being a Buckeye homer. Well recently he totally redeemed himself while picking the winner of the Leaders division (TOSU) to beat the winner of the Legends division (Iowa) in Indianapolis on December 3rd. All I can say is FYGB Herbie.

Buckeye Predictions
Buckeye fans brace yourself for what I will predict is one of the most exciting years in all of Buckeye history. Now, I’m not going to be predicting a NC, however, I will tell you that my optimism is growing every day. I could be drinking some seriously spiked Kool-Aid (I’m actually drinking Leinenkugel’s Oktoberfest–perfection), but I will say that this Buckeye team is seriously underrated.
Offense-Remember when you could sit back on 3rd and 10 and just predict that the play was going to be a draw up the middle? Throw that stuff out. You will see an offense base on spreading out the defense and getting the ball to the players that can make plays. What does that mean? Remember these names; Jordan Hall, Jaamal Berry, Devin Smith(FR will start by end of year), Cory Brown, Rod Smith, and Jake Stoneburner. These will be the playmakers this year. Of Course, don’t forget the H-Squared(Huber Heights) freshman Braxton Miller. It’s freaking Miller Time and I’m ready for this kid to be a playmaker.
Now this doesn’t mean the Buckeyes are going to have the best offense in the Big Ten(12) but I will say that they are going to be seriously underrated throughout the year and surprise some people once Miller gets settled. My thoughts are really that Braxton give the Bucks the best chance to win with his ability to get out of trouble with his feet and ability to get the ball into the hands of other veteran players to make plays.
Braxton will start maybe even game one. Jordan Hall with be starting RB until Boom comes back with Rod Smith getting a lot of carries. WR will be interesting but I see Devin Smith and Evan Spencer making significant contributions in the 2-deep. In my opinion everyone will love Verlon Reed while Mr. Posey warms the bench for the first five. TE will be a fluid thing as Stony may have to play a lot of slot WR and force Hauerman to play early as a FR. Offensive line will be good as long as they stay away from injuries early. If the OL can weather the storm while Adams is out, it will be one of the better OL the Buckeyes have had in the past 4 years (I know, not saying much).
Defense-Barring the type of injuries that we saw last season, this will be the best defense in the Big Ten(12). The depth of the D-line will be the key to their success. Let’s just say they are stacked. Big Hank, John Simon, and Nate Williams return as starters. There is a ton of talent around and behind them. LB’s lose a lot in B-Rolle and Homan, but they have a Andrew (Keith) Sweat and Sabino to fill in their roles. Sweat will be great and I look for Sabino to be consistent enough to get us to the promised land. Curtis Grant and Ryan Shazier will see the field, I just don’t know how much just yet.
The secondary is question mark for a lot of people. Not me. Tyler Moeller comes back as the Nickle/Star position. Remember he was pretty much a heat seeking Silver Bullet last year prior to his injury. Hopefully he can stay healthy. CJ Barnett is also coming of his injury last year and all thing point to good to go for CJ. Travis Howard and Bradley Roby will be very physical on the corners and from all report Mr. Howard could be better than Checkwa. The other safety is the question to me. Will Christian Bryant take over for Orhian Johnson or will he have to spell Moeller? Either way he plays. I think he will take over for Johnson and have a great year making plays.
Season Prediction 11-3 (if you do the math it is clear they are heading to Indy) I can see them losing to Nebraska on the road, Nebraska in the B10(12) championship, and a high-profile bowl game. Three wild card games I see are home for MSU, home for Wisconsin, and @Michigan. I’m not really too worried about MSU since they choked last year in the statement games however, I’m sure Cousins will have them ready. Wisconsin I’m worried about but you know that the shoe will be rockin’ for that night game. And Michigan…The Game gets its first battle between Fickell and Hoke. Both are alums of their teams, and both will have their teams ready to play.
Break-out players- Braxton will impress. Verlon Reed and Devin Smith are beasts. Jordan Hall will raise eyebrows as Rod Smith shows us the future. CJ Barnett and Christian Bryant are house hold names. And Tyler Moeller finally puts together a complete great season.
The Nation
Underrated vs. Overrated
Overrated Teams
- Florida St.-The reason they are ranked in the top 10 is their schedule and they play in the ACC. They got smoked by OU last year, drubbed by VaTech(we’ll visit them soon), and lost to NC State there and UNC at home. They did beat S.Carolina in the bowl. Great Defense but a lot of questions on offense. You’ll know a lot more on 9/17 (OU).
- Va Tech-No Ty-Rod, Big Problem. They heart and soul of this team is gone but they play in the ACC. So they have enough talent to get to the title game against FSU. Remember the Orange Bowl…
- Stanford-Should be 7-0 until they meet USC then they will lose 3 of their last 5. Luck is terrific and my be the number 1 overall pick in the draft. But they aren’t good enough to beat Oregon or USC and they could lose in week 3 at Arizona. I’m just not impressed by their overall team speed (I’m an SEC echo).
Other honorable mentions: TCU, Texas A&M, and Notre Dame
Underrated Teams
- South Carolina-I know Spurrier has one last great season in him. His weapons on offense may be the best QB-RB-WR combo in the country and his defense will be in the top 10. The trendy pick in Georgia to win the SEC East, I’ve got SC
- Oklahoma State-This is probably the nation 2nd best QB-RB-WR combination in the country. The only problem is OSU does not like to play defense for long periods of time. That’s OK because there may not be a better all around offense in the country.
- Southern California-I know that I hate SC and I know I’m not alone on this one (“we were better than them”) but you cannot argue that they have talent. With talent and a veteran QB you can go a long way. Kiffen has really one more year before he is on the hot seat but I think they make some serious strides this year. Most people are forgetting SC since they can’t play in a bowl game. Don’t think they won’t be playing for pride.
Honorable mention-Florida, Michigan St, Ohio State
National Champion-Roll Tide-Alabama will beat Oklahoma for the NC
Rose Bowl-Oregon vs Nebraska. Winner Oregon
Sugar Bowl-Ohio State vs. South Carolina- Winner SC
Fiesta Bowl-Boise St. vs Stanford- Winner Stanford
Orange Bowl- Florida St. vs West Virginia- Winner FSU
Best Conference-SEC by Far. Big 10(12) is second but only barely to PAC 10 and then B12(10)
Notre Dame-I like their schedule and I think it will depend on how well Dane Christ plays. They have some weapons on offense and a vastly improved defense but can Brian Kelly put together the type of offense we saw at UC? I think they are on the right track and predict a 9-4 season with a loss in a respectable bowl game. They will start out 5-1 or if they are lucky 6-0 before they get handled by USC. But I like what they have with Dan Christ and Co putting up some points. They have a tough game to start the year with South Florida but I think that is good way to get things going in the right direction for ND.
Be ready for next week, It’s COK Week 1!!!

- LSU vs Oregon-What a great start to the season. SEC vs Pac 12 rematch for the NC. Look for LSU to try to pound the ball and play good Defense. I think it’s not a good match-up for Oregon. I know they have a lot coming back but this will be basically a home game for LSU and Oregon will be replacing a lot of major offensive weapons. The wild card will be LaMichael James. If he gets going this game will be interesting.
- Boise St. vs Georgia. Does the SEC ever leave the South? I think Georgia can break out of their early season funks and gets a big win in Georgia Dome. Gotta give Boise some props for going East and taking on big time programs in VaTech and Georgia in back to back seasons. Now when they join the Pac 12 they can be called a big time program.
- TCU vs. Baylor. I know its kinda off the radar, but this is a major game on Friday night!! If Baylor had a Defense I would pick them. TCU by 2 TD’s.
Week 2
- Alabama at PSU. I have a feeling the Lions will stick around for a while. I’m sure it will be one of those played out White-outs and that may keep them in it for a while. Bama will figure out they should just run the ball and eventually break the game open. I’ll be rooting for the ‘Nits though.
- Georgia vs. South Carolina. Winner of this game probably wins the SEC East(don’t sleep on the Gators). I like the Gamecocks on the road. I think they just have too much offensive firepower.
- Wisconsin vs Oregon St. Good test for the Badgers early. Badgers probably a better team. Although Wisconsin has been known to struggle early in the year lately…
- Notre Dame vs. Michigan. This is the battle for which team is closest to getting back to dominance. Problem being is ND is probably a year away and Michigan is probably 3. Still I like the Michigan because they have stability at QB even though the better defense will be ND’s. In a related story, Michigan is still having try-outs for kicker and most spots on the defense.
- Texas vs BYU. This one could be interesting. Will Texas make a statement? The better question is will they have a QB?
- OK State vs Arizona. Good offense vs Great offense. I like the Cowboys
- Utah vs. USC. I like USC big but this could be a fun game to watch.
Week 3
- Florida vs Tennessee. This is always a good rivalry. Gators should win this pretty big but Rocky Top always represents in this game. Usually this is a pretty dirty game.
- The Ohio State University at The U. Buckeyes are waiting to see if the U will be able to field a team. If they can’t, it will be a disappointment as this would be a good rematch from last season. Remember-Night Game!!
- Nebraska vs Washington. Rematch of the Rematch. Washington took the bowl game as Nebraska won big in the regular season. I think Nebraska rolls at home but would not be surprised if Washington makes this a game.
- Sparty at Notre Dame. I like the Spartans here. Back to back tough games for ND is not good. Remember last year’s ending????
- Oklahoma vs. Florida St. We will see which team really is legit. Home game in Tallahassee is a big advantage for FSU. I think FSU is a year away and Oklahoma barring any more injuries is nearly unstoppable on offense. We will see about that, after all they play in the Big 12(10).
- Arizona vs Stanford. Zona got worked last year in this game. Can Nick Foles get revenge?
Week 4
- Alabama at Arkansas. Can Arkansas replace Mallet and Knile Davis(injury)? I don’t think so but Bama on the road is alway worth watching.
- Texas A&M vs OK State. I think I like A&M at home in this one. But I also think OK State is legit.
- Arizona vs. Oregon. Could be the best game of the day. Hopefully it will be on TV.
October Week 5
- Bama at Florida. Alabama rolls into The Swamp for a huge showdown. These two programs have been the standard for the SEC the last few seasons. The Gators will make this interesting.
- The Ohio State University vs MSU. All I can say Buckeye fans is, ‘Thank god this is at home’. I would be even more worried if this game is in Lansing. Cousins has some firepower but the Buckeyes will have THE best defense in the Big Ten(12). Hopefully by this game it will be 100% Miller Time.
- Wisconsin vs Nebraska. Nebraska begins their death row march through the Big Ten(12) with the one of the toughest places to play, Madison. This should be a must watch game. Hopefully the ESPiN and the BTN play well together on the schedule.
Week 6
- LSU vs Florida. I like the Tigers at home for this game. But this is always a great game to watch.
- OSU at Nebraska. I don’t like it Buckeye fans. We’ll see who I pick after I get to see how both teams are playing. Look for defenses to rule the day. Hopefully NU is beat-up from the previous week.
- PSU vs Iowa. Always a big game in the Big Ten(12)
- Oklahoma vs Texas. The Red River Shootout and it will always be the Red River Shootout to me. I think Oklahoma will be shooting fish in a barrel. ‘Always a good game to watch.
- Va Tech vs Miami. Again assuming Miami can field a team this game is a good watch.
Week 7
- MSU vs Michigan. Little brother has been beating Big Bro lately. There could be a lot of points scored in this game. Stay Tuned.
- Texas vs OK State. Big game for second place in the Big 12(10)
- Baylor vs A&M. Big game for second place in the Big 12(10)
- ND vs USC. Trojans hit the road to take on the Irish. This should be a great game. Touchdown Jesus will not disappoint.
Week 8
- Georgia vs Florida. The Worlds Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party has alway had a lot passion. Even though Georgia has been pretty much worked in the series, they have made it quite interesting a few times. Now it’s time for the Gators to make it interesting.
- OSU Vs Wisconsin. The Badgers were, perhaps, the only team that kept OSU from going undefeated last year. Don’t think C-Bus has forgotten…
- Nebraska vs. Michigan St. I see a lot of Red in this game. It just feels like Iowa last year for MSU. Luckily, this year, they won’t be undefeated when it happens.
- Stanford at USC. Could be very entertaining matchup of QBs. I like SC to win in a close one.
November Week 9
- Alabama vs LSU. Home game for Alabama will make the difference but this will decide the SEC west.
- Oklahoma vs A&M. Home game is the difference. I love both offenses but the home field advantage will help the Sooner Defense. Boomer!!
- Stanford at Oregon St. I like the Beavers at home to pull an upset.
Week 10
- South Carolina vs. Florida. If there was a bigger game for South Carolina I would want to know it. I know they beat Bama last year but so did 2 other teams.
- Penn St vs Nebraska. Another white out…
- MSU vs Iowa….Remix…Go Sparty
- FSU vs Miami. Always wide right.
- Oregon vs. Stanford. Probably for the Pac 12 North Championship.
Week 11
- OSU vs Penn State. This has become a good rivalry in the Big Ten(12). I like another low scoring game with extra points for home field advantage.
- Nebraska at Michigan. I like the Huskers D to take over this game and I like the Huskers to roll.
- Oregon vs USC. Maybe a preview of the Pac 12 Championship game. Ducks have slaughtered the Trojans lately…trend continues.
Week 12
- Alabama vs Auburn. Good rivalry but I think Auburn struggles this year and gets hammered.
- Florida vs Florida St. Will the torch be passed for Florida supremacy?
- The Ohio State University vs UM. 2 First year head coaches for their Alma Maters. Great Defense vs Great Offense. Gotta love all the story lines.
- Wisconsin vs Penn State. For second place in the Big Ten Leaders
- Nebraska vs Iowa. Could be the next great rivalry in the league
- Texas Vs A&M. Big Rivalry maybe the last time they play for a while.
- Oregon vs. Oregon State. Another great rivalry.
- Notre Dame vs Stanford. Who’s nose is raised higher?
December Week 13
- All the Championship Games
- Okalhoma vs OK State. Could decide the Championship.
Random Notes
Va Tech could/should win every game this year until the ACC Championship…and they suck.
The Big East should stick to basketball. They will just beat on each other again this year. Not a single dominate team in that league…Maybe WVU this year…
Is Chuck Amato still the coach at NC State?…if not, I miss those shades.
The U…oh boy
Remember to never bet on Clemson.
Cathedral 5
The Cathedral is breaking everyone in this season a little at a time. Also you will notice a new format. I worked to find a format that would inspire all you witty football fans a user-friendly model to drop comments. I can’t wait for all the chatter. Remember, keep it PG-13, I have family reading this. Just use the abbreviated lettering that most 10 year olds can decipher.
Without further wait, I present to you the Cathedral 5. This is the Top 5 players by positition that I would want on my team. They can be game changers, trench players, prima-donnas, or just flat-out playas.
